From April through September temperatures are moderate. In
summer, the thermometer can rise to 25 or 30 degrees Celsius.
Black flies and mosquitoes are a nuisance in May and June,
when the big lake thaws, and there's 24 hours of daylight.
July is an excellent time to try the fishing in Great Bear
Lake, home of world record Lake Trout. (A "monster"
caught in the summer of 2001 weighed 74 pounds.)
Winter is cold and often clear, beginning in October and
lasting to May. In December, when there's just three and a
half hours of official daylight on the shortest day, temperatures
can drop to -50 Celsius.
